Dominican police say hotel owner was behind slaying of muckraking journalist

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic ? A prosecutor in the Dominican Republic says a resort owner is behind the slaying of a muckraking journalist.

Frank Soto tells reporters that Matias Avelino Castro organized the kidnapping of Jose Silvestre to prevent him from publishing an article that linked him to a murder and drug trafficking.

Soto said Tuesday that one of the men involved in the kidnapping is in custody. That suspect allegedly told police Silvestre was shot and killed when he fought back as he was being forced into a car on Aug. 2.
