BEIRUT ? Tens of thousands of Syrians poured out of mosques after prayers on Friday to join anti-government protests, defying the threat of a brutal crackdown to express their rage at the killings by security forces this week in the city of Hama.
The Local Coordinating Committees, a group that organizes and reports on protests, said demonstrations had erupted across the country after the noontime prayers, which have served as a rallying point for government opponents since the uprising began in March.
